Installing a Custom Configuration of Chili!Soft ASP for Linux

This topic describes the steps to install a custom configuration of Chili!Soft ASP for Linux systems. For more information about a custom installation, see "Choosing an Installation Option for Linux" in this chapter.

The configuration options you specify when installing a custom configuration of Chili!Soft ASP can have serious consequences for your server environment. Before you begin, make sure you meet the following requirements:

·   You are logged on as root.

·   If you are downloading Chili!Soft ASP from the Web, you must have 45 MB of hard disk space available in order to extract the installation files.

·   Your hardware and software meets the requirements listed in "Installation Requirements—Chili!Soft ASP for Linux" in this chapter.

·   You know your product serial number. Chili!Soft ASP requires a valid serial number in order to run. If you downloaded the product from the Web, you should have received an e-mail message that included your serial number. If you are installing this product from a CD-ROM, the serial number is printed on the CD-ROM case. If you are installing a trial version from a CD-ROM, you must obtain a serial number at:

http://www.chilisoft.com/register

·   The Web server has been shut down. If you are not familiar with this process, consult your network administrator.

·   To configure Chili!Soft ASP to run with a Web server that is already installed on the target computer, you need to know the following:

Absolute path name of the Web server main configuration file (for example, /usr/HTTPServer/conf/httpd.conf)

Absolute path name of the Web server binary (for example, /usr/HTTPServer/bin/httpd)

Web server version (for example 1.3.12)

Web server type (for example Apache)

Web server port number (for example 80)

Web server root directory (for example /usr/HTTPServer)

·   If you configure Chili!Soft ASP to run with an Apache Web Server that does not support Dynamic Shared Objects (DSO), you must manually link the Web server to Chili!Soft ASP and then recompile it, as described in "Configuring a Non-DSO Apache Web Server" in this chapter. If your Apache Web Server supports DSO, there are no additional steps to take: Chili!Soft ASP includes pre-built DSO modules that automatically link to your Web server.

·   For the Chili!Soft ASP Administration Console, you need to specify a username and password. Please note that if you specify a password and later forget it, you can no longer access the console. Be sure to specify a password that you can remember, or else plan to store it in a secure location.

·   You need to know what language you want Chili!Soft ASP to support. The options are US English, British English, Dutch, French, German, Japanese Shift-JIS, Spanish, and Swedish. If you want, you can change the language after installation, as described in "Configuring International Support" in "Chapter 3: Managing Chili!Soft ASP."

·   If you have already installed the IBM Bonus Pack on your server, you must stop the IBM HTTP Server before installing Chili!Soft ASP.

·   If you have a previous installation of Chili!Soft ASP on your server, the Chili!Soft ASP 3.6 setup program automatically preserves your existing server settings. If your database connections do not work following installation, you might have to reconfigure them, as described in "Configuring a Database" in "Chapter 3: Managing Chili!Soft ASP."

To install a custom configuration of Chili!Soft ASP 3.6 for Linux, use the following procedure.

To install a custom configuration of Chili!Soft ASP for Linux

1.   If you are installing Chili!Soft ASP from a CD-ROM, skip this step and go to step 2. If you are downloading Chili!Soft ASP from the Web, download the casp-3.6.0-linux.tar file to a temporary directory, and then extract the installation files by using the following command:

 #> tar -xvf casp-3.6.0-linux.tar

This step creates the following files in the temporary directory, which you can delete after completing the installation:

A README file containing important product information
The install.sh installation script
A package/EULA file containing the end-user license agreement
A package/ directory containing files required to install Chili!Soft ASP

2.   Run the install.sh script by using the following command. For downloaded versions, this script is located in the temporary directory you created in the previous step. For CD-ROM versions, this script is located on your installation CD-ROM.

 #> ./install.sh

3.   Review the End-User License Agreement (EULA) that displays. Enter yes if you agree with its conditions. You must type the entire word "yes" in all lowercase letters.

– or –

Enter no if you do not agree. If you enter no, the Chili!Soft ASP setup program aborts the installation

4.   On the next screen, enter 2 to select a Custom Installation.

5.   On the next screen, press Enter to accept the default Chili!Soft ASP installation directory (/opt/casp).
